About Natasha

“They said, “You are a savage and dangerous woman.” I said, I am speaking the truth. And the truth is savage and dangerous.”

My name is Natasha, I am twenty years old and I live my life according to the quotation above. It was written by my inspiration, the radical Nawal el-Saadawi in her novel Woman at Point Zero. If you haven't heard of this explosive woman then I suggest you open a new internet tab and google her RIGHT NOW. What she has done for me is that she has introduced me to a whole new world. She has exposed me to the critique of certain Middle-Eastern and South-Asian cultures, and has inspired me to follow her and study in particular the treatment of women within these regions. If you shall reduce me to the title of "feminist" then I shall respond with another Saadawi quote: "For me feminism includes everything," she says. "It is social justice, political justice, sexual justice . . . It is the link between medicine, literature, politics, economics, psychology and history. Feminism is all that. You cannot understand the oppression of women without this."

In that case then yes I am. This blog will aim to understand the oppression of women and it will have a heightened focus on issues that I feel I have to deal with as a young Indian/Pakistani girl drawing on my own perspectives and experiences. I am also particularly interested in is the ways in which these cultures and traditions have been transposed to the West. I am currently writing my dissertation on the experience of Pakistani women in Britain.

I wish to speak the savage and dangerous truth, and I hope you enjoy reading this blog.
